China Restricts Hidden Door Handle Cars

China Restricts Hidden Door Handle Cars.

The Chinese government has taken a giant move to ban electric vehicles with hidden door handles.

Despite being one of the advanced countries in the world with technology, the Chinese company has restricted the use of hidden door handle cars.

The controversial car designs which was introduced by multi-billionaire innovator and IT guru, Elon Musk with his Tesla Electronic Vehicles.

The Chinese government banned Elon Musk’s Tesla cars after it faced scrutiny from safety analysts around the world. This was after a number of deadly incidents, which includes two fatal crashes in China involving Xiomi EVs in which power faliure were suspected to have prevented doors from being opened.

According to the new law which is due to take effect on January 1, 2027, car with mechanical release both on the inside and outside of the their doors will only be allowed.

The Chinese’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology rules demands that the outside of every passenger vehicle should have a recessed space measuring no smaller than 6cm by 2cm by 2.5cm to allow access to the handle.

Also, inside the car, there must be signs measuring at least 1cm by 0.7cm to show to open the door.

The authorities have given a two year ultimatum for cars that have been approved and are in the final stages of entering the Chinese market to update their designs.

In China, hidden handles are widely used in their new energy vehicle (NEV) market, which includes EVs as well as hybrid cars and those powered by fuel cells.

According to the Chinese government news paper, China Daily, EVs and hybrid cars features about 60% of the top 100 best-selling new energy vehicles.
